What to do?

"I’d like to see the websites develop into though[t]-provoking, informative, factual sources on South Africa, its crime situation and possible solutions. Unfortunately things seem to be going the other way …" 2:24 PM, July 09, 2006

I have been wondering this weekend about possible solutions to the problems this blog is trying to dismantle. It is great that people have opinions and that there is a place for people to express themselves freely, but what then? One of the main problems facing us, as South Africans is a lack of trustworthy information. Most of what is being said has no real basis, because we aren't given proper stats by the police. What South Africa really needs, other than a couple of web sites of opinion, is one of fact. A good example has been pointed out: Chicago Crime Database.

I don't have the time or the resources to develop something like this. However, Crime Expo SA does. That is one possible route I would like to see that web site go.

Also, I have been looking at a comment about trying to use this site to raise money for charities or foundations, by offering advertising space. At the moment, I'm going to say no, but I'm open to comments and opinions, for example, is it ethical, is it worthwhile, and what sort of charity. I am very hesitant to commercialise any aspect of this debate.

Neil Watson is bitter about the farm killings. His website has no stats whatsoever about other crimes in SA. It should actually be I checked it out thoroughly. The only thing he has is 1 farm murder every 60 hours. Don't know where he's getting that from. My point is the website is ridiculous. However, crime is a problem in our country and we should not ignore it but deal with it in a constructive and effective way. If we stop tourists from coming - the big on GDP tourism sector will suffer- jobs will be lost- unemployment will go up - and consequently crime will increase. Crime is the lowest in countries where jobs are abundant - like the UK. We need not sit back and cry but create jobs as young and capable South Africans. Bright in the corner where you are. Everyone must just do a little bit and the results will be amazing I promise. Don't resort to senseless and distructive websites like crimeexpo...Successful countries keep internal criticism internal. They solve internal issues internally. The CNN will always be on America's side. Let's stick together. Thanks Addy for the blog. This is a much needed response website.

bwahahaha. what a pathetic loser this anony-mouse character is. why do you people actually waste your time with this tosser? he won't listen to what you say and will twist anything you do to suite his purpose. he also seems to be in full support of this southafricaiscrap character. have you seen this crap blog? the author of it thinly veils his racism by referring to "new south africans" instead of using the word black. he doesn't even have the balls to follow through completely. and this anony-mouse character is in support of him and probably the africacrisis site the southafricaiscrap blog too. they're both unashamedly racist so what does this character's support of those sites make him?

you would waste time on a racist who believes that apartheid was actually a good thing? you would have an argument with someone who believes a falsehood like that?

to call him a loser is an insult to losers.
